Congrats Barack Obama!!!

If you didn’t watch this on thursday or hear it already, check out Barack Obama’s acceptance speech of President for the Democratic Party.  I really like this guy……..(be warned…this speech is long, but worth the listen, I think.)

A couple Amendments to watch out for folks….

In California, they are putting Proposition 8 on the November ballot.  We had talked about this before but let’s bring it up again.  This is a proposed consititutional amendment that would ELIMINATE THE RIGHT OF SAME-SEX COUPLES TO MARRY!  The Attorney General, Jerry Brown, just recently changed the wording to say that.   But be on your toes for ANY and ALL types of wording that may come up.  The wording is what usually screws people up when they are going to vote because sometimes it’s hard to decipher.  So be prepared ahead of time and try to find out what the wording is so you know which way to vote.

In Florida, Amendment 2 will appear on the November ballot.  This is a constitutional amendement which would ban marriage for gay and lesbian couples but it would also ban civil unions and domestic partnerships in the state.  Thankfully, U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, has pledged to fight this proposed constitutional amendment but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get out there and vote and let your voices be heard!   Again, be careful with the wordings of these amendments, sometimes they are hard to decipher and you may not know which way you are suppose to vote if you don’t understand how it’s worded.  Try to get the wording to the amendment prior to voting.

Does anyone else know of any amendments folks should be on the look out for?

GLBT Advocacy Groups Asking California’s Highest Court to Block November Ballot Initiative!

Equality California filed a legal brief stating that the initiative is a REVISION - not an amendment - to the state constitution, therefore it requires state legislative involvment and not a majority vote.

The court will rule on this in the summer.

Same-sex domestic partner benefits illegal says Michigan Supreme Court!

The Michigan Supreme Court ruled that because of a 2004 amendment to their state constitution that it is illegal for employers to provide benefts to same-sex partners.

This includes health care and other related benefits.

I don’t even live in Michigan and this pisses me off! Seriously people, what is this world coming to when you can’t even give something as simple as HEALTHCARE to the person who you love and share your life with.

Honestly, I can’t see how anyone in Michigan, or this entire country, can think that this is OK. The bottomline is that 2 lesbians in love or 2 gay men in love..their relationship and their lives have ZERO effect on anyone else…..they do not effect anyones lives or relationships………..and the only thing they are portraying in the world is LOVE. Since when has love became such a bad word?

I’d like for every married heterosexual person to take a moment and think about your relationship, think about your struggles, think about your happiness, think about things you argue about, think about things you agree on….think about it……….think about how much you love your wife or husband, think about how you’d do anything for your wife or husband, think about how much you care about your wife or husband……. Everything you just thought about is EXACTLY what gay and lesbian couples think about too.

Now, please look at your husband or wife and imagine how you would feel if you state said that you could NOT provide something as simple as healthcare to your partner!!! How does that feel??

It’s absolutely ridiculous that the people of Michigan or any other state that has such an amendment in their state constitution, would actually ALLOW SUCH A THING TO OCCUR!!!! Each and every one of you that allowed such discrimination into your state constitituion seriously ought to be ashamed of yourselves!

You don’t have to be gay or lesbian to be outraged by your state constitution taking AWAY peoples rights instead of PROTECTING THEM! It’s absolutely pathetic. I just hope that Pennsylvania doesn’t make things even worse in their state with the SB 1250 bill they are trying to pass…….

Do we have anyone from Michigan who would like to comment on this? How about any straight folks? I want to hear what folks have to say…..am I the only non-Michigan person who is this pissed off by this ruling???

Please don’t forget to VOTE!

And especially if your state is having a primary of some sort; please, please, please get out and VOTE in it. If you have to change parties to vote for your candidate then please do so by the required deadline. (Pennsylvania’s primaries are Tuesday, April 22nd!)

As for who I’m voting for? Barack Obama. I like this guy. I like what he stands for. I like what he has to say. And well quite frankly, I don’t believe Hillary can beat John McCain. So if you want a change in America…..YOU NEED TO MAKE IT HAPPEN WITH YOUR VOTE. And, please make your vote count!
