Equality California filed a legal brief stating that the initiative is a REVISION – not an amendment – to the state constitution, therefore it requires state legislative involvment and not a majority vote. The Michigan Supreme Court ruled that because of a 2004 amendment to their state constitution that it is illegal for employers to provide benefts to same-sex partners.
