Connecticut Legalizes Gay Marriage

Connecticut’s highest court legalizes same-sex marriage after a 4 year legal battle in the state court system.

The Connecticut Supreme Court overturned a lower courts ruling by 4-3, allowing full-fledged marriage for same-sex couples.

The supreme court said that a ban on gay marriage is an infringement on the “fundamental right” of same-sex couples.

As you may (or may not already know) prior to this ruling Connecticut allowed civil unions for same-sex couples.

As of November 12, 2008, you can get married in Connecticut.  Please check out the Gay Marriage Guide for details.

Californians and others…want to know which businesses supported Prop 8?

If you’re like me, you don’t want to support businesses that don’t support you.  I feel very strongly about that and if someone makes me aware of a company that is anti-gay then I will no longer support or do business with that company.

I bet a lot of you feel the same way so I figured I’d make the Californians Against Hate website available to you as it lists individuals and organizations that donated to the “Yes on Prop 8″ campaign.  There are even non-California donors on here…so even if you’re not from Cali you might want to check it out.

There is a 2 page list, but of the top 5 donors only 2 of them were from California. The 2 California donors in the top 5 were:

  • Howard Ahmanson, Jr., Irvine, Ca.  Howard owns Fieldstone and Co. and he Donated $1,395,000.00
  • Terry Caster and Family, San Diego, Ca.  They own A-1 Self Storage and they Donated $693.000.00

The out of staters were:

  • Knights of Columbus, New Haven, Ct.  Donated $1,425,000.00  (Catholic Church)
  • John and Josephine Templeton, Bryn Mawr, PA.  They own the John Templeton Foundation and they donated $1,100,000.00
  • National Organization for Marriage, Princeton, NJ.  Donated $1,041,134.80

I urge you to go through the list and if you find businesses that don’t support you then I guess they don’t support you doing business with them either huh?  At least for me, I know they wouldn’t get my money anymore.  But please be certain that if you see a company name on here that it is either a) the company itself that made the donation or b) the CEO, President or Owner made the donation.   Because you are getting individual donations from folks that state where they work and this does not necessarily mean that the company they work for is against gay marriage, but just that individual person is.

Please be aware of this issue and do your due diligence prior to boycotting any businesses.  Again, here is the website to check out the donations to the “Yes on Prop 8″ campaign.

Help PROTEST for GLBT Rights!

Join the protest for GLBT rights.  This is all stemmed from the sad results of the elections in Florida, Arizona, Arkansas and California in which they all voted AGAINST EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL.

Check out where you can find the peaceful protest for GLBT rights in your city here.  Please remember, this is just not a protest for just the 4 states mentioned above.  This protest is taking place Saturday, November 15th, 2008 throughout cities in the ENTIRE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Florida, Arkansas, Arizona and California equal right supporters aren’t the only people pissed off about the passage of these bills.  GLBT and even non-glbt folks across the entire U.S.A. (and even abroad) are equally as upset.

This Saturday, those that support equal rights for all, will join together in their city for a peaceful protest.

Remember t0 check the site to find out where in your city or state you can join the peaceful protest for GLBT rights.

Let us know if you’re going to take a sign and what you’re going to say on your sign.

Prop 8 in California Passes

I’m sorry it took me so long to post this…was a bit under the weather.  But yes, as unbelievable as it is, Prop 8 passed in California.  This will put discrimination into the states constitution and will not allow gay marriages in California even after the Supreme Court just said that gay marriages are legal.

Californians can’t give up though.  Not now, not ever…and gay and lesbians throughout the WORLD are all outraged at this and we’ll all help make it heard.

Supporters of Prop 8 in California are now AHEAD!!!

Folks, if you live in California, please, please, please take action now in some way, shape or form and get the word out to all of your friends, family, co-wokers, everyone to vote NO on Prop 8.

This is the initiative that would ban same-sex marriage in California. It WILL be on the November ballot and everyone in California will be voting for or against it.

Please urge folks to vote NO to Prop 8. If you can afford it, even a little bit, why don’t you donate to the cause. The Pro Prop 8 people are out numbering us dollar wise big time..so much so that in a recent poll of California people, pro Prop 8 people are winning by 5%!!!

We can’t let this happen to California…please get the word out more. Brad Pitt, graciously donated $100,000 to the say no to Prop 8 campaign………….now I know you ain’t Brad Pitt, but if you or anyone you can know is fortunate enough to have some money to spare, I think this would be a great cause now. You can go here to donate to say No To Prop 8!

Iowa challenging state’s ban on marriage equality

In December, Iowa’s Supreme Court wil hear a case which challenges their state’s ban on marriage equality. Each side of this argument will have 30 minutes to make their arguments.

A Polk County judge, last year, struck down a state law limiting marriage to opposite-sex couples stating that it violated constitutional rights of due process and equal protection.

Anybody in Iowa care to comment on this? What’s your feeling on how most of Iowa feels (or at least the gay and straight people in your world that you know.)
