Learn how to protect your rights!

Do things like what happened in Michigan or what is being talked about in Pennsylvania tick you off? Want to learn how to protect your rights and actually learn what is going on in your area that may potentially take your rights away as a gay or lesbian individual?

Check out our interview with Stacey Sobel, Executive Director of Equality Advocates Pennsylvania. I sat down with Stacey last Tuesday at the Capital Building in Harrisburg after we attended a Senate Commitee Hearing about the SB 1250 bill, “The Marriage Protection” amendment, that they are trying to get passed in Pennsylvania.

I want to urge you to watch this video. Yes, Stacey and I are both located in Pennsylvania and we talked briefly about this bill in Pennsylvani but the majority of the conversation applies to everyone, regardless of where you live. Stacey shared many insights and advice on how you can protect your rights in your states. Please check out the video and let us know what you thought of it!

Once again, I want to take the time to thank Stacey for all that she does for the GLBT community in Pennsylvania! Your work truly is appreciated.

Awesome! Please come back here and post how it went. I think it’s important for us to let folks know just how easy it is to speak to your rep about important issues that may very well change your life! Plus, it doesn’t take much time at all.

I’m Carey and Kathys friend from Tennessee. As a straight woman I had NO idea how to vote on that bill with the wording the way it was. It seemed almost intentional. It confuses me why anyone would not want for the gay community the same rights as the straight community.

I would also like to say that I really had little contact with the gay community - not by choice, just didn’t. Since meeting Carey and Kathy I have become so enlightened and would encourage everyone to look more into it and understand it.

So Debbie, as a straight woman who had no idea about the issues that gay folks faced, do you have any suggestions for how we can make more folks who were in your shoes aware of what is going on in the gay community and how they can help?

Thanks for the comment Debbie. MUAH!
