Clinton wins Pennsylvania!
Ok so my guy, Obama, didn’t win Pennsylvania, but that was kind of something that most Obama supporters knew wasn’t gonna happen anyway. But he sure did give Hillary a run for her money in a state that she was “suppose” to slaughter him.
Anyway, it was awesome that so many new folks registered to vote and a great majority of new voters voted for Obama too.
Please keep in mind, that just because I’m an Obama supporter, it doesn’t mean that I want you to register to vote or switch parties to vote just so you can vote for Obama. That’s not it at all. Grant it, I’d love it if you voted for him. But my main reason for wanting gay and lesbians folks, of all ages, to get out there and register to vote or switch parties so you can vote for a more Gay and Lesbian friendly candidate is because ALL OF OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT!
Seriously, if you don’t think your vote makes a difference you are sadly mistaken. Look here’s the deal, when I was a young, lesbian, just coming out (19 to be exact) I had no idea about why I voted for anyone…and honestly, I didn’t care. I just voted for the party. And I think alot of younger folks (and heck, maybe even older folks) that are gay or lesbian may be the same way. I mean you’ve just come out, you’re young, you’re nervous, you’re excited, you’re looking for loveee…..you don’t give a hoot about no stinkin’ election, right?
WRONG! I don’t want the younger gay and lesbian folks out there to make the same mistakes that myself and so many other younger gay and lesbian folks made…..you’re NEVER too young to start to care about who you are voting for. Your future as a gay or lesbian American will depend on it.
So again, I don’t necessarily need you to be an Obama supporter, but I want you to take an interest in the voting process. Actually, RESEARCH every single candidate and check out their views on the issues that are important to you. You have internet access with a world of information at your finger tips….use it. If you need some help, HRC.org (Human Rights Campaign) generally puts out their report card on candidates…here’s the latest one for the democrats who are running for President in 2008. And yes, they also have them for Republicans and anyone else that is running. So that’s a great tool you can use.
But do your OWN research, make your OWN opinion…..don’t just vote for someone because Melissa Etheridge says so or your partner says so…..or the President says so or whomever…make your own educated decision to pick someone and by all means, please check out EVERY SINGLE CANDIDATE. (Believe me, you learn a ton by doing this.)
Ok…that’s my rant for today about voting. And one more time, a big thank you goes out to all of the new voters that came out to vote in the Pennsylvania primaries. Kudos to you all!
